But here's the crazy part --
- I don't have any projects lined up for me. I don't even know when and where my next income will come from.
- I don't have a business plan.
- I don't have an office.
- I don't have a business partner.
- I don't have any proposal letter typed out to give anyone or company.
- I don't have a plan of what to do for the rest of this month, besides not waking up 4:00am anymore.
- I don't know what the future is going to be like for me. Now, I'm 100% on my own. No steady guaranteed paycheck.
But I've got one good thing going for me. I have sold over half of my shares and now have enough cash to sustain me till end of this year. So I'm 100% sure I won't starve before December 31, 2014.
But why I'm I doing this --
- I'm a workaholic and I keep feeling that I'd be better off working for myself.
- If truly I'm as value-packed as I claim in interviews, then it's time I prove it to everyone.
- I grow extremely fast on the job. In this job that I'm quitting, I've managed to grow from working in one department to working in four departments. And it has always been like that in all my previous jobs, I'm the guy who's always wanting to do more. Never saying no to any job request. I even volunteer to come on weekends. So, I'm sure the only way I will never keep slaving myself to someone else is to be my own slave.
- I have lots of crazy ideas I want to try out.
- I'm most creative at night. And I like working in bursts of time, not from 8 to 5 every weekday. The only way I can work at my peak creative hours is by working for myself.
- Everyone thinks I will make it. Some weren't even surprised when I had the thought. It's like it was going to happen someday. So I felt the earlier the better.
- I have no money (well, I don't consider what I have money. Like a friend says almost all the time: One man's wealth is another man's change/coins). And I'm not married. In short, I have nothing to lose.
- Finally, it's part of my One Life Goal.
So please wish me luck! (Yeah, I always ask people to wish me luck. I said so in that post.)
Good luck! Please let us know how it goes.....I am also working on FI, but through saving and investment. I assume you make some money through this blog as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteI'll share my experience.
Glad you're taking your financial health seriously.
I used to make about N30,000/month, then it reduced to N20,000/month. Now it's less than N10,000/month from my blog.
Once again, thanks for wishing my luck!
Hi Olafusi Micheal,
ReplyDeleteI have read a couple of articles on your blog
and I am really impressed.
PS: That is a very bold step to step, I couldn't help but laugh at the part I'm not married, indicating less responsibility.
WOW!!!
I respect your effort,
this has been crossing my mind consistently, but fear and a lack of solid plan is holding me back.
Once again congratulations, you will do well.
I am focusing on investments now, so that when I eventually summon up the courage I will be ready.
Congrats again, I wish you the very best, please keep us posted.
And don't get tempted to take up a job
Thanks! I'll sure try my best not to get tempted to take up a job!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading and commenting. You made my day!
Thanks again.
Quite interesting though. I've done a few things on excel myself and i've come to understand that the more you use it the better u'ld want to get. Your blog is quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou might experience some difficult times as you progress, just understand that they'll only serve stepping stones. I'd like to meet you something soon.
Thanks for the encouraging comment!
ReplyDeleteIt'd be a great pleasure to meet you too!
